GMC Sierra 3500 Towing
Towing Capacity of the Sierra 3500
Many of our Baltimore and Towson-area customers come to us looking for highly capable vehicles. If they ever mention that they need something with a lot of towing capacity, we direct them to the Sierra 3500. The Sierra 3500 is one of the toughest and most robust trucks we've ever had in our inventory. If you have a lot in store for your pickup, the Sierra 3500 is ready to work hard.
Selecting dual rear wheels (DRW) boosts towing capability immensely. With a conventional trailering set-up and the diesel engine under the hood, a DRW 3500HD can tow 20,000 pounds. If you're looking for uncompromising trailering ability, the turbo-diesel engine delivers. This is because the diesel V-8 has 910 pound-feet of torque and 445 horsepower. This compares with the 464 pound-feet of torque and 401 horsepower in the gas-powered V8, which is still quite strong on its own.
The Sierra 3500 features lots of available tech features to help with towing as well. With the available trailering app in your vehicle, you'll be able to keep an eye on important metrics and driving information. You can also take advantage of the 15 unique camera views available on the Sierra 3500.
When the 3500 HD truck (with a regular cab, long bed, 2WD, and dual rear wheel) is equipped with a Duramax 6.6-liter Turbo-Diesel V8, it can tow up to 35,500 pounds. This ability is hard to find in any of the Sierra's competitors, and it's a major reason why you see so many 3500 HD trucks on worksites in Owings Mills or Bel Air, MD.
While exact towing numbers vary by configuration and equipment, you'll still have excellent capability no matter which model you choose. For example, a rear-wheel-drive 3500HD with single rear wheels can tow up to 14,500 pounds with just a conventional hitch. That number increases to 21,500 pounds when using a gooseneck hitch.
